Our program centers on the emotional, social and physical development of the child. We integrate monthly themes into our teaching of music, dance, arts, science, math, language and the environment. Through experience based learning, we encourage an excitement for learning that helps children become more confident in themselves and with the world around them.
Children at this age are usually just beginning to separate consistently and confidently from grown-ups in a social setting. Our combination of a warm farm atmosphere along with the animals, allows them to relax and wave their goodbyes and feel safe and nurtured.
Children develop self-confidence and independence as they learn to transition through our routine. Language skills are emphasized, as children are encouraged to share their ideas through play, stories, and creative art projects. Teachers help children to take turns, share, learn to use words to solve conflict, and to treat each other with respect, love, and compassion. The direction and pace of the learning reflect the readiness of the particular class, and some activities are repeated according to the child’s interest and for mastery of a particular process or skill. Eco-consciousness is also a running theme as we recycle in the classroom, compost, and use eco-friendly products. During snack, we introduce our students to different healthy foods and organic produce. Once our gardens are in bloom, we will incorporate our vegetables/herbs in our cooking/baking program.
Our Farm
Our set up is truly a fairy tale. When they walk through the barn doors and enter the farm, our children are transported to another world. A world of loving interaction with nature. A world where they have hands-on animal experience.
Our animals include horses, a pony, goats, a pig, a donkey, bunnies, chickens and guinea pigs.
The children learn responsibility through caring for the animals. They are taught what each animal eats, where it lives and how to handle them properly. They learn about life cycles, meet the new baby animals and witness the miracle of metamorphosis when the caterpillars transform into butterflies.
Animal time is integrated into our monthly curriculum. As the children learn about the world around them on the farm, they also learn their colors, shapes and letters. Spending time with the animals on our farm is magical as well as educational.
Art & Cooking
Each child has an individual style and unique creative gifts. Our art teachers allow the children to express themselves, while guiding them in exploring and developing their unique talents. Our art curriculum is process-oriented and follows our monthly themes. The children work with all different mediums and colors. This is a time for the children to get messy and show their true colors and personalities!
Cooking and baking are exciting components of our pre-school program. Here, basic math and science skills are incorporated with delicious and healthy snacks. Each child has individual cooking utensils—bowls, spoons, rollers, pastry brushes and more; working with all these different tools really strengthens the children’s fine motor skills.
During the cooking lessons the children identify basic ingredients, practice patience, and learn the importance of getting along with others. We work with fresh eggs from our very own chickens, fresh fruits and vegetables and organic ingredients. The children develop a sense of independence through cooking and can’t wait to demonstrate their new talents at home.
